How to Make Your Instagram Shoppable

There are several ways to monetize your Instagram, but there's nothing better than having your customers be able to purchase directly from your Instagram posts. As of now, there are two different ways to make your business Instagram shoppable.

If you use Shopify:

Shopify is beta testing a shoppable Instagram feed feature. If you have an Instagram business account and a Shopify store, you can apply for this feature. Note that you can only use this feature if you are in the United States and if you sell physical products (no digital products or services).

Here's what you need to do:

1. Set up your Instagram account as a business account by connecting it to your Facebook page
2. Connect your Shopify account to your business Facebook's product catalog
3. Add your products to your Facebook (learn how here)
4. Double check that you are using the latest version of the Instagram app
5. Apply for the beta Shopify Instagram feature here!

Once You Have Been Accepted:

1. Check that your Facebook page is connected to your Instagram business profile in Shopify
Go to Shopify - Facebook > Account
Make sure your Instagram appears in the Instagram Account section
2. Open your Instagram settings
3. Now you should see "Products"
4. Tap "Products" and select that the product catalog that you want to use
5. Now when you post a photo, you will be able to tag products from that catalog!

If you do not use Shopify:

As if Planoly was not already my favorite app (have you read my previous post about it yet?), you can now use it to make your Instagram feed shoppable!

Planoly's shoppable features include:

  • Shoppable Instagram content
  • Tag products on every post
  • Track engagements and performance
  • Embed shoppable gallery on your site
  • Curate your shoppable gallery

Here's what you need to do:

1. Sign up for Planoly
2. Choose the Shoppable plan
3. (The set up must be done on their website)
4. Select "Shop" for the Instagram account you want to activate
5. Click on "Products" to start adding your product catalog
6. Tag existing Instagram posts with products by clicking on any post
7. Click on the spot in the picture that you want to tag a product
8. Click "Add"
9. Add your Shoppable feed link to your Instagram bio!
